My personal fascinations nature and history can be seen in my work. I love to do research on new subjects. I spend a lot of time on it to translate complex information into a nice visual image.
I like to cooperate with client, publisher, designer, author to make a good product.

In 1992 I completed my study at the Academy of Arts and from then on I have been illustrating for a large number of clients.
I have made illustrations for about 200 children’s books, non-fiction and educational, on subjects such as nature and history. I have also illustrated a variety of picture books, some of which have been published in the US, China, Germany, Italy and the UK.
Since 2008 I have been illustrating for the Dutch daily newspaper NRC Handelsblad on a weekly base. Once a week I have the pleasure to illustrate an article on animal behaviour in the children’s science section.
In the portfolio section on this website you can find a range of projects I have been working on for the past 25 years.
My personal fascination for nature, animal behaviour and history are shown in my illustrations.
Most of the illustrations are made by hand. Materials I work with are acrylic paint, gouache, coloring pencils, various drawing inks, etc. These materials are often combined.
On occassions I work with (partly) digital techniques.
I work in the attic of an nice old warehouse in the city of Zwolle. I share this room with my colleague and well-known illustrator Marijke ten Cate.
In this building more artists have their studios, which sometimes results in communal projects, such as the book When life turned upside down.
